First National Myositis Meet : 24 March 2024 , NIMS, Hyderabad.
The First National Myositis Meet, the foundational event for the myositis community in India, was held on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad.
Hosted by the Myoin Society India, the meet successfully brought together a diverse group of clinicians, researchers, and trainees for a day of intensive learning and collaboration. The scientific program featured a distinguished faculty, including Dr. Vineetha Shobha, Dr. Liza Rajasekhar, Dr. Megha Uppin, and Dr. Anitha Mahadevan, who led discussions on critical topics such as building patient cohorts, understanding necrotising myopathy, identifying myositis mimics, and the science behind myositis-specific antibodies.
A hallmark of the inaugural meet was its commitment to innovative formats. Attendees benefited from unique sessions like a joint exploration of muscle physiology by a pathologist and physiologist, and a practical workshop on measuring muscle weakness and its limitations. The day also included a dynamic panel discussion where experts provided insights on complex patient cases. Furthermore, the meet provided a platform for emerging research, encouraging young investigators to submit abstracts for oral presentations.
With its blend of expert-led sessions, interactive workshops, and a focus on patient-centric care, the First National Myositis Meet laid a strong foundation for the society’s mission to advance knowledge and improve outcomes for those affected by myositis in India.
