History
A myositis special interest group was created during the national conference of the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRACON) 2017 conference held in Lucknow with the intent of working towards collaborating and forming an Indian database to capture the clinical presentation serologic characteristics as well as outcomes of treatment in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myositis. Over the next few years the collective effort of this group resulted in creating the database of patients seen over four centers, some in academic practices and some from the private sector. A need was felt to create an organization which would have resources to fund ongoing research in this field and bring together experts from allied fields with interest in this disease. Patient perspective was also considered important in this endeavor and hence the MyoIn society was created.
The Society was established in 2021 with the aim of bringing awareness and support to individuals with idiopathic inflammatory myositis. The goal being to promote research, education, and advocacy for individuals living with this condition.

Our vision at Myoin Society is to become a leading resource in the field of idiopathic inflammatory muscle diseases, providing invaluable research ultimately leading to the development of groundbreaking treatment for those affected.

Dr. Liza Rajasekhar, MD has more than 25 years of experience as teacher and clinician in the field of rheumatology. She has been associated with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad for all her professional life after training at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in Internal Medicine and for Laboratory Immunology at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan.

Dr. Rajasekhar is a polished clinician with an extensive knowledge of the field. Dr. Sanjiv Nagin Amin is a dedicated and accomplished healthcare professional with a wealth of experience in the field of rheumatology. He conducts a solo practice as consultant Rheumatologist at the Rheumatic Disease Clinic in Mumbai. Dr. Amin has dedicated his career to providing the highest level of care to his patients and has successfully diagnosed and treated a wide range of rheumatic diseases. Dr. Able Lawrence, MD is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow, India. He is an expert in the field of rheumatology and immunology, and holds an MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from the University of Lucknow.Dr. Lawrence has been a faculty member at SGPGI for the past 10 years. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of various rheumatological and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and scleroderma. He is also an expert in the management of other autoimmune disorders, such as Sjogren’s Syndrome and vasculitis.Dr. Lawrence is highly respected in the field of immunology and rheumatology, and his research has been published in numerous journals, including the Indian Journal of Rheumatology and Indian Journal of Medical Research. Professor Ramnath Misra MD, FRCP (London) , FAMS, Masters (APLAR) is currently Professor and Head Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and Dean (Research and Development) Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar. He had an illustrious career as Professor and Head Dept of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and Dean , Sanjay Gandhi Post graduate Institute of Medical Education and research, Lucknow for many decades. He is a member of Scientific Advisory National Institute of Immunohematology (ICMR) Mumbai and Regional Medical Research Centre , Bhubaneswar, Fellow of the Indian Academy of Medical Sciences 2019 and has received numerous awards in his illustrious career including the S R Naik Research Award by SGPGIMS 2017,MN Passey Award by IRA 2013,Samanta Chandrashekhar Award by Odisha Bigyan Academy 2010, FRCP London 2009 and the ICMR Talent Search Fellow in 1979.
He has 225 publications and an h index of 44.
He has served as the past President of the Indian Rheumatology Association.
Dr. Megha Shantveer Uppin is an Additional Professor at the Department of Pathology at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, India. She has over eighteen years of experience in the field of Pathology and has conducted numerous research projects in the areas of surgical pathology, neuropathology and renal pathology. Dr. Uppin’s primary area of work is diagnosis of infectious and neoplastic disoders of various systems and organs; in particular to central nervous system. She also holds expertise in interpretation of muscle and nerve biopsies and is in-charge of the neuromuscular lab at the institute. She also excels in clinicopathologic correlation of tests for appropriate diagnosis. She has published more than 150 articles in national and international indexed journals and has supervised and co-authored several medical theses. Dr. Uppin has also been actively involved in teaching medical students and postgraduates about the latest advancements in Pathology. As a part of her teaching activity, she regularly organises seminars, lectures and workshops. She has also served as a visiting faculty at various medical institutions in India. Her commitment to teaching and research has been recognised with several awards, such as the Indian Council of Medical Research Fellowship and the Fellow of Indian college of Pathology (FICP). Dr. Uppin’s dedication and expertise have set her apart as one of a dependable and expert referral pathologists in South India.

Lt Col. V. Emmanuel (Retd) is a retired army officer having served in the army for 21 years. He is presently working with a real estate company at Hyderabad. His wife has been diagnosed as a case of Inclusion Body Myositis. She is presently under remission.
