I had the opportunity of attending the second national meet of Myoin Society held at the lush green campus of St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru. I reached home and woke up to the alarm at 5AM the next day. Fighting the urge to snooze, I woke up to lure of morning coffee, to find my significant other already awake. In the first fifteen minutes I deemed myself unfit to go swimming as I had been tired from the day before. Sipping coffee my significant other had a revelation. “Its a SUNDAY! Investigations in Rheumatology: Role of Myositis Specific Autoantibodies in Diagnosis & Management

Dr. Vineeta Shobha spoke about the role of myositis-specific autoantibodies in diagnosis & management, anti- synthetase syndrome, antigenic target in DM, proposed criteria for different MSA, and MSA detection methods. MSA is a powerful tool that can differentiate subtypes of DM/OM based on characteristic combinations of systemic and cutaneous phenotypes. Despite autoantibody phenotype overlap and incomplete autoantibody penetrance, sub-classification guides specific clinical care. Additionally, accurate sub-classification is critical to guide with respect to follow-up, prognosis, and anticipation of disease sequelae.
